Dear Hon'ble Court,
I would like to lodge a complaint pertaining to a prepaid mobile connection in case of service provided by AIRTEL.
Thanking you,
Vikas Damle
I would like to lodge a complaint pertaining to a prepaid mobile connection in case of service provided by AIRTEL.
- In case of a recharge of a prepaid number, the validity of the package changes if the future package selected happens to be different than the earlier package used. E.g. if the old package is of Rs. 1799/- valid for 365 days is renewed with a new package of Rs.2249 valid for 365 days, the validity of the package starts immediately with recharge; resulting in a loss of few days for the customer who does the recharge in advance. Normally a genuine customer would not like to wait till the last minute for recharge and would prefer to recharge well in advance but then he or she is at a loss with the policies Airtel is adopting. In my case I have lost a validity of 11 days just because I did the recharge well in advance.
- The packages (or denominations as called by Airtel) are under its direct control and for any reasons the subscriber has no role to play in determining the price of a package/ denomination. In majority of the cases, one will try to choose a package/ denomination nearer to the earlier used. In the above-mentioned case, the denomination of Rs. 1799/- for 365 days has been discontinued by Airtel company in the last year. The result is, its prepaid subscribers are at loss if they choose to recharge well in advance with a different denomination that Airtel is offering which the users are forced to select since Airtel has discontinued the old denominations.
- Comparing with insurance sector if the policy is renewed well in advance with different terms e.g. a third party or comprehensive or in case of Mediclaim with different amounts; it is always renewed only after the expiry of the old policy and not with immediate effect. Even in case of Wifi packages offered by Airtel itself the renewal starts only after the earlier package is fully over. How come mobile industry should be different than the other sectors only for prepaid mobile packages and why, what are the reasons?
- The matter was taken up with Airtel and TRAI. TRAI directed me to Airtel without giving any reply, where as replay given by Airtel is attached which is unacceptable. The response has been obtained on X in both the cases is attached.
- According to me it is an unfair trade practise and should stop immediately. More details can be shared if desired.
Thanking you,
Vikas Damle
