In my recent bill additional charges included mentioning the line item "International Roaming 10 Day Data Addon Pack @2499_NRC (C)" of amount 2499 . This is on top of 10 days IR package INR 2999.
I am airtel customer; One day prior to travelling oversees, i opted for 10 days roming package on my existing mobile no. When I landed overseas on 13 July, a pop-up appeared on my device. As a customer, I reasonably assumed it was related to international roaming services. I clicked. Simply clicking on a pop-up should not automatically imply that I intended to purchase or use an additional data pack.
Airtel customer care mentioned, its promotional popup and i have clicked. Why customers are being mislead with these. Our family members also use mobile, My parents, kid..chances that, those popups will be clicked by anyone unknowingly.
My fundamental question is: Why did the data add-on activation pop-up appear in the first place when I had not even started using the international roaming package? Why unnecessary promotional ads/pop ups appearing on our device ?
Further, there is a lack of transparency for customers:
• How is a customer expected to know that a data add-on pack has been activated?
• How can a customer determine whether mobile data is being consumed under that add-on?
• Where is the clear notification showing usage and applicable charges before billing?
