Respected Sir/Madam,
I would like to bring to your immediate attention an issue of overpricing and exploitation happening opposite Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Gurukulam (Girls), Racharla, Markapuram District.
Several small shops located directly opposite the government girls’ hostel are selling packaged food items and cool drinks above the printed Maximum Retail Price (MRP). For example:
• ₹20 MRP cool drink bottles are being sold for ₹25–₹30
• ₹10 biscuit packets are being sold for ₹15
When questioned, the shopkeepers openly stated that they are not afraid of any authority and challenged us to take action.
This is extremely concerning because:
• The students staying in this hostel belong mostly to economically weaker sections.
• Many children come from distant rural backgrounds.
• Exploiting minor girls studying in a government institution is highly unethical and illegal.
This is a clear violation of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 and Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
I request the concerned department to:
