Chronology of Events

1. Initial Diagnosis and AMC Recommendation

When our refrigerator stopped working, LG assigned a technician named Mr. Shahid.

Upon inspecting the refrigerator, he clearly informed us that the motherboard had burnt out and needed replacement. He specifically confirmed that the compressor was functioning properly and did not require replacement.

He further advised us that ordering and replacing the motherboard separately would be expensive. Instead, he recommended purchasing a two-year Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) for ₹16,002, assuring us that the motherboard replacement and refrigerator repair would be covered under this AMC.

Based entirely on his diagnosis, recommendation, and assurance, we agreed to purchase the AMC and paid ₹16,002.

The AMC was issued under Form Number LB566172, with validity from 15 October 2026 to October 2028.

He also assured us that the refrigerator would be repaired within three days.

2. Seven Days of Unresponsiveness

Despite his assurance, Mr. Shahid failed to return or provide any meaningful update for the next seven days.

During this period, he repeatedly failed to answer our phone calls, leaving us without a functioning refrigerator and without any clarity regarding the repair.

3. Contradictory Information From Another Technician

On the eighth day, we unexpectedly received a call from another LG technician, Mr. Abdul Karim, who informed us that he was scheduled to visit our home to replace the refrigerator's compressor.

This was extremely surprising because Mr. Shahid had explicitly informed us that the compressor was perfectly fine and that only the motherboard needed replacement.

Suspecting a possible misunderstanding, we initially requested Mr. Abdul Karim not to visit until the matter was clarified.

4. Shocking Revelation From LG Kalyan Service Centre

We subsequently contacted the LG Kalyan Service Centre using the contact numbers provided by Mr. Shahid.

To our surprise, the service centre informed us that no motherboard had ever been ordered for our refrigerator.

Instead, they confirmed that a compressor had been ordered because Mr. Shahid had reported that the compressor was defective.

This directly contradicted what Mr. Shahid had told us during his initial visit.

5. Actual Repair – Compressor Replacement

On 23 October 2026, Mr. Abdul Karim visited our residence and replaced the compressor.

Following the compressor replacement, the refrigerator started functioning normally.

This has raised extremely serious concerns regarding the accuracy and honesty of the original diagnosis and the circumstances under which we were persuaded to purchase the AMC.

Our Primary Concern – Why Were We Charged ₹16,002 for an AMC?

Our refrigerator is approximately 4.5–5 years old, and we understand that LG provides a 10-year warranty on the compressor, subject to the applicable warranty terms.

If the actual problem was the compressor, which was still within its warranty period, why were we advised to purchase an AMC worth ₹16,002 on the pretext that the motherboard had burnt out?

We were clearly informed that:

- The compressor was functioning properly.
- The motherboard had burnt out and required replacement.
- Replacing the motherboard separately would be expensive.
- Purchasing the ₹16,002 AMC would cover the motherboard replacement and repair.

However, the motherboard was never ordered, and ultimately, the refrigerator was repaired by replacing the compressor.

Had we been correctly informed that the compressor was defective and potentially covered under the existing warranty, we would never have agreed to purchase this expensive AMC without first understanding our warranty entitlements.

The entire sequence of events strongly suggests that we were misled into purchasing an AMC based on incorrect and contradictory information.

We consider this a serious case of potential misrepresentation and unfair service practices, which warrants an immediate investigation.

Our Requests to LG India

We formally request the following:

1. A full refund of ₹16,002, as the AMC was purchased based on the technician's representation that the motherboard required replacement, which was ultimately not performed.

2. Cancellation of AMC Form Number LB566172, along with the full refund, without any cancellation charges or deductions.

3. A thorough investigation into the conduct of Mr. Shahid and the LG Kalyan Service Centre, particularly the contradictory diagnosis and the circumstances surrounding the AMC sale.

4. A written explanation confirming why we were told that the motherboard was defective when the actual repair involved replacing the compressor.

5. Confirmation of the original diagnosis, spare-part orders, and service records associated with RNA Number 261015023238.

6. Appropriate corrective action to ensure that other customers do not face similar misleading experiences.

Extremely Disappointing Customer Experience

As LG customers, we expected professionalism, honesty, transparency, and reliable after-sales service.

Instead, we experienced contradictory information, seven days of unresponsiveness, unnecessary inconvenience, and serious concerns about being charged ₹16,002 for an AMC that we may not have needed.

Our experience with the LG Kalyan Service Centre has been extremely disappointing and has significantly damaged our trust in LG's after-sales service.

We request LG India's senior customer support and grievance redressal team to personally review this complaint and arrange a full refund of ₹16,002.

Please acknowledge this complaint and provide a written resolution within seven working days.

We sincerely hope LG India will take this matter seriously and resolve it fairly and promptly without requiring us to escalate the complaint through formal consumer grievance channels.

Regards,
Ameett Mankani
