I'm a US based NRI and have been interacting with HDFC locally when I'm in India.
I have several active accounts with HDFC bank in all spheres of their operation.
This post is to inform all NRIs how poorly ill-equipped 90% of the employees at the bank in matters related to various NRI rules, regulations, and information.
There is no dedicated NRI desk even though at ANY of the banks.

Employees are obsessed with signing up anyone who walks into their bank to HDFC LIFE insurance so that they meet their 'target' for the year!!
Generally speaking, banks in INdia don't seem to understand that the customer must come first, before any internal paperwork, browsing the bank intra-net or any such internal affairs.

The vast majority of the employees are staring at their laptops appearing to be busy, but they're simply going through emails. They're nothing but glorified clerks!!

Hello @SamPrasadUSNRI

Please contact HDFC Bank customer care.
Where? How? Call? I have customer service contact numbers which I call when I'm in the US. I'm talking about local branches in large cities/metros in India. No one has any understanding about requirements for NRI customers. They have "deer in the headlights" look when asked NRI-specific questions, because they're not trained for NRI customers, only to deal with domestic customers.

Recently I had a query for HDFC NRI services in Bangalore. When I sent an email from my US residence to India, the email to my RM bounced back. Per my suspicion, my NRI RM had been fired and HDFC bank did not bother the NRI customers he was servicing. All 150-200 of customers to whom he was assigned. This itself is a major point of failure, asking ONE RM to handle 150+ customers. After contacting a high-level HDFC employee, I was finally assigned a RM, two months later!!! The customer service is atrocious.
