I am writing to formally raise a complaint regarding my recent purchase of a Voltas 1.5 Ton Split AC (Hot & Cold) from a Croma store.

At the time of purchase, we were shown a display unit and provided with a detailed demonstration of its features. We were explicitly informed that the model being purchased would include all the demonstrated features, with the only difference being that the decorative strip (patti) on the indoor unit would be silver instead of yellow. Based on this assurance, we proceeded with the purchase and completed the payment.

However, during the installation by the Voltas service team, I requested a demonstration of the features that had been showcased in the store. To my surprise, I was informed that the installed unit does not support those features. Specifically:

  • The AC does not support both horizontal and vertical swing, despite this being demonstrated at the time of purchase.
  • The self-cleaning feature (ice formation and automatic cleaning mechanism) demonstrated in the store is not available in the installed unit.
This clearly indicates that the product demonstrated to us was different from the one ultimately delivered and installed. Such a discrepancy is misleading and falls far short of the level of transparency and customer service I expected from Croma. I chose to purchase from Croma because of the trust associated with the Tata brand, but this experience has been extremely disappointing.

In addition, the AC unit installed at my residence appears to be defective. The front flap is not functioning properly and does not close as intended. It has confimed by voltas team that motor is defective.

I paid approximately ₹1,500 towards the installation charges. After following up with both Croma and Voltas for nearly a month, I was finally informed that a replacement of the AC had been approved. However, I was also told that I would have to bear the cost of uninstalling the defective AC as well as the installation charges for the replacement unit.

I declined this demand because I had already paid the installation charges for the original unit, which turned out to be defective. It is unreasonable and unfair to expect a customer to incur additional expenses due to the supply of a defective product. I requested a refund of the installation charges; however, my request was refused.

I request that this matter be resolved at the earliest by:

  1. Replacing the defective AC without charging any uninstallation or reinstallation fees.
  2. pay Rs 15000 as mental agony and legal charges
For your reference, I have attached the following documents:

  • Copy of the purchase/payment receipt.
  • Photographs of the AC unit demonstrated at the Croma store.
  • Photographs of the installed AC showing the front flap defect.
  • Service centre acknowledgement where it show motor is defective
