Subject: Complaint Against Excessive Billing by SUM Ultimate Medicare Hospital

Respected Sir/Madam,

I, the undersigned, wish to lodge a formal complaint against SUM Ultimate Medicare Hospital, K.B. Kalinga Nagar, Ghatikia, Bhubaneswar – 751003, Odisha, India for charging an exorbitant and unjustified amount for consumables used during my mother’s surgery.

Patient Details:

  • Date of Discharge: 09/07/2026
  • Hospital: SUM Ultimate Medicare, Bhubaneswar
Billing Dispute: On 04/07/2026, the hospital billed the following item:

  • Code: SSJAM04
  • Description: Jamshidi Needles Dia 16 G
  • Rate: ₹27,825.00 each
  • Quantity: 2 nos
  • Total Amount: ₹55,650.00
I strongly believe this charge is excessive and unreasonable. The hospital has failed to provide any justification or detailed explanation for why a single needle should cost ₹27,825. Despite my request for clarification and refund, the hospital authorities have stated that “nothing can be done right now.”

Grounds for Complaint:

  • Lack of transparency in billing.
  • Possible overcharging of consumables.
  • Denial of grievance redressal at the hospital level.
Relief Sought: I respectfully request the Commission to:

  1. Direct the hospital to provide a detailed justification for the above charges.
  2. Order refund of the excess amount charged for the needles.
  3. Issue necessary directions to prevent such unfair billing practices in future.
