The Hon’ble Presiding Officer,
District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission,Pathanamthitta
Subject: Complaint against excessive convenience fee deduction upon cancellation of air ticket due to flight rescheduling by airline
Respected Sir/Madam,
I am filing this complaint under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, seeking redressal for the unjust deduction of convenience fees exceeding Rs. 1700 on cancellation of my air ticket consequent to a unilateral change in flight schedule by the airline.
Details of the case:
- I had booked an air ticket
PNR: Q88Y7N
Booking Date: 14 June 2025
Flight No. 6E-7446
through Flipkart - The scheduled departure time was originally 5:25 PM, which was changed by the airline to 7:00 AM without my consent or adequate justification.
- Owing to this significant change in timing that did not suit my requirements, I was compelled to cancel the ticket.
- Despite the cancellation being a direct outcome of the airline’s decision, I was charged a convenience/cancellation fee of more than Rs. 1700.
- As per DGCA guidelines and consumer protection norms, no or minimal charges should be levied when cancellation is prompted by changes from the airline’s end and not by passenger volition.
- I have reached out to [name the portal/airline’s customer service] seeking a full refund and reversal of unjust charges, but have not received a satisfactory response or resolution.
- A direction to the opposite party to refund the excess convenience/cancellation fees charged.
- Compensation for undue harassment, mental agony, and time lost.
- Copy of ticket and payment invoice.
- Communication records with the airline/booking portal.
- Receipt or proof of deducted convenience fee.
- Any responses from customer service.
Thanking you,
Yours faithfully,
Joseph M Sebastian
