I am submitting this formal complaint regarding serious deficiencies in service, an incorrect refund amount, and misleading information provided during the refund process.
I had ordered two ladies' dresses and one men's T-shirt through Amazon. As the delivered items were mismatched, I returned them and became eligible for a refund.
However, I have experienced the following issues:
1. The refund credited is incorrect. An amount of approximately ₹125, which is rightfully payable, has not been credited to me. I request a detailed reconciliation of the refund calculation and immediate payment of the remaining amount.
2. During the refund process, Amazon represented that selecting Amazon Pay would result in a quicker refund than receiving the amount through the original payment method. Based on this representation, I selected Amazon Pay.
3. Contrary to this representation, the refund was credited as Gift Card Balance instead of a normal Amazon Pay balance or being returned to my original payment method. This important distinction was not clearly disclosed before I made my selection. The restrictions associated with Gift Card balance materially affect how the refunded amount can be used.
Such practices are misleading, lack transparency, and adversely affect consumer rights by preventing customers from making an informed decision regarding their preferred refund method.
Accordingly, I demand that Amazon:
- Credit the outstanding refund amount of approximately ₹125 immediately.
- Transfer the entire refundable amount to my original payment method or to a fully usable Amazon Pay balance, as applicable.
- Provide a written explanation of the refund calculation and the basis for crediting the amount as Gift Card Balance.
- Review and correct the refund interface so that customers are clearly informed about the nature of each refund option before making a selection.
- Ensure that similar misleading practices are discontinued.
If this matter is not resolved within a reasonable period, I shall be constrained to pursue all remedies available under applicable consumer protection laws, including filing a complaint before the appropriate Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission and, wherever applicable, raising the matter before the appropriate regulatory authorities.
