On 28th October 2024, while attempting to make a transaction from my ICICI Bank account, I discovered that my account had been frozen. I was unable to send or receive money. To my surprise, this happened without any prior notice or communication from the bank.

Attempts to Resolve the Issue:​

  1. Initial Contact with the Branch Manager:
    • On the same day, I contacted the branch manager over the phone. They assured me they would inform me of the reason for the freeze.
    • Two days later, I followed up again and was told to "wait" as they were still determining the reason.
  2. Email Communication:
    • On 30th October 2024, I sent an email to ICICI Bank to document my grievance and seek clarity.
  3. Repeated Follow-Ups:
    • Between 30th October and 29th November 2024, I called the branch at least 10 times. Each time, I received the same response:
      • "We don't know the reason for the freeze."
      • "Allow us more time to investigate."
Despite these repeated attempts, I still have no clarity on why my account was frozen, nor have I been asked to submit any documentation or resolve any specific compliance issue.

My Concerns:​

  1. No Transparency: How can a branch manager not know the reason for an account freeze? If not them, who in the bank is responsible for such matters?
  2. No Action Taken: I am ready to provide any documents needed, yet the bank has not reached out with any request or action plan.
  3. Prolonged Delay: It has now been over a month, and I am still waiting for a resolution. This has caused significant inconvenience and financial stress.

My Appeal:​

I am sharing my experience publicly because I have exhausted all options of direct communication with ICICI Bank. If the bank needs any documents or further information from my side, I am fully prepared to cooperate. However, the lack of transparency and prolonged delays are unacceptable.

If ICICI Bank cannot resolve this issue promptly, I may have no choice but to escalate this matter to the Banking Ombudsman or take legal recourse.
