I, Seema Ragade , residing at Sawarkar Nagar, Nashik, am a consumer of Mahavitaran electricity services with consumer number 049016635374. I am writing to file a complaint regarding the illegal disconnection of my electricity connection, which has caused me significant harassment, inconvenience, and financial loss.
The electricity bill for December 2024, amounting to ₹720, had a prompt payment date of 4th January 2025 and a due date of 15th January 2025. While I was away on vacation, the meter was shockingly removed on or before 10th January 2025—well before the due date of the bill. This disconnection was carried out without prior notice or any intimation, which is a blatant violation of my consumer rights and due process.
I paid ₹720 online on 10th January and upon contacting the Mahavitaran consumer helpline, I was informed that I have to pay a reconnection fee of ₹310 to restore my electricity connection. This demand is unjustified and illegal, especially given that the bill due date had not lapsed at the time of disconnection. This irresponsible and premature action has caused immense inconvenience and mental distress, as I had to endure several days without electricity.
I, therefore, request the Hon’ble Consumer Forum to take strict action against Mahavitaran as many other consumers like me are facing the same issue, and direct the following reliefs:
1. Restoration of my electricity connection without reconnection charges as due date was 15th January 2025.
2. Compensation of ₹50,000 for the mental harassment and inconvenience caused and violation of due process and consumer right.
3. A written apology from Mahavitaran, along with an assurance that such actions will not recur.
Yours faithfully,
Seema Ragade
