Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to formally bring to your attention a situation that has placed me, as a loyal Skoda customer, at a significant and compounded disadvantage — one that I believe warrants urgent intervention and fair compensation from Skoda Auto India.
── BACKGROUND ──
I purchased a Skoda Kylaq Signature AT from Brite Skoda , Sector 6 Noida, on 2nd June 2025 (Invoice No.: VSN/25-26/0349, Chassis No.: MEXKPEPC2SG031723, Resg No.: UP16EZ 3466). I made my purchase decision in good faith, based on the features and pricing available at that time.
Since then, two significant developments have occurred — both of which have materially reduced the value of my purchase relative to what a buyer of the same car enjoys today:
── GRIEVANCE 1: EXCESS GST PAID ──
At the time of my purchase in June 2025, I paid GST at the rate of 29% (28% GST + 1% Compensation Cess), as applicable then.
Effective September 22, 2025, under the GST 2.0 reforms, the Skoda Kylaq now attracts only 18% GST — an 11% reduction — resulting in a price benefit of approximately ₹70,000 to ₹1.19 lakh depending on variant. I have approached my dealer for a refund of this differential GST amount, and they have declined, citing that the rate change is prospective and not retroactive.
While I understand the legal position, I believe that Skoda Auto India, as a responsible and customer-centric brand, has a moral obligation to address the inequity faced by customers who purchased just months before this landmark tax reform.
── GRIEVANCE 2: POST-PURCHASE FEATURE ADDITIONS ──
In January 2026, Skoda Auto India updated the Kylaq lineup with new variants and feature revisions. The updated variants now include several features that were NOT offered to me at the time of my purchase in June 2025, despite being available on equivalent or even lower-priced configurations today. These additions include:
• Leather-wrapped steering wheel
• Auto-dimming IRVM (Interior Rear View Mirror)
• Electric Sunroof
• Rear Wiper & Washer
• Front Auto (Rain-Sensing) Wipers
• LED Rear Reading Lamps
• Grab Handle
A customer purchasing the equivalent variant today receives these features as standard — while I, having paid more due to higher GST, received fewer features. This constitutes a dual disadvantage that is both financially material and deeply unfair from a customer equity standpoint.
── REQUEST ──
I hereby request Skoda Auto India to consider one or more of the following as fair compensation:
1. A monetary refund or account credit equivalent to the GST differential (approx. ₹70,000–₹1.19 lakh based on my variant);
2. Complimentary fitment of the aforementioned features (leather steering wrap, auto-dimming IRVM, sunroof, rear wiper, auto wipers, reading lamps) at an authorised Skoda service centre at no cost to me;
3. An equivalent value in extended warranty, Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC), or complimentary service packages ;
4. A combination of the above, mutually agreed upon.
I would like to reiterate that I am a genuine admirer of the Skoda brand and its engineering standards. However, this experience has eroded my confidence in the brand's customer-first commitment. I trust that Skoda Auto India, as a company that takes pride in its 'Simply Clever' philosophy, will respond to this concern with the fairness and urgency it deserves.
Yours sincerely,
Anshu Anand
