Dear Sir/Madam,
I have taken a top-up loan of ₹70,000 from HDFC Bank. As per the loan agreement, I am paying a monthly EMI of ₹6,759 for 12 months, which totals approximately ₹81,000. This means I am already paying around ₹11,000 as interest on the loan amount.
My EMI due date is the 6th of every month, and the EMI is set to be auto-debited from my Kotak Mahindra Bank salary account through ECS.
On 5th March, I unintentionally forgot to maintain sufficient balance in my account. On the morning of 6th March, after receiving a message about the debit attempt, I immediately deposited the required amount into my account.
However, I noticed that:
Kotak Mahindra Bank has debited ₹590 as ECS return/bounce charges.
HDFC Bank has also charged ₹450 as EMI bounce charges.
This results in a total penalty of ₹1,040.
I would like to respectfully request clarification and reconsideration of these charges. Since I added the required balance on the same day as the due date, and the due date had not fully passed, I request you to kindly review the situation. Additionally, the debit attempt appears to have been made very early in the morning (around 3–4 AM), which gives customers very little opportunity to rectify the balance on the due date itself.
As a customer from a middle-class family, such additional charges create a financial burden, especially when we are already paying significant interest on the loan amount. I kindly request you to consider my case and, if possible, reverse the ECS bounce charges as a goodwill gesture.
I would also appreciate clarification on whether there can be:
A second auto-debit attempt on the same due date, or
An option for manual EMI payment on the due date before applying bounce charges.
I sincerely request you to review my complaint and provide a fair resolution.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
