*Complaint under Consumer Protection Act against Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd for deficiency of service, unfair trade practice, and non-refund of charges*
Details of the Complaint
I was a Jio Fiber customer in Kochi, Kerala. Due to my job requirements, I had to relocate from Kochi to Bangalore. Since I work from home, a reliable internet connection is essential for my livelihood.
Accordingly, I raised a relocation request with Reliance Jio Fiber for shifting my existing connection from Kochi to Bangalore. As demanded by the company, I paid an amount of Rs. 1200 towards relocation charges. The payment was successfully made and acknowledged by Jio.
After relocation to Bangalore, I waited for more than one full week for installation. During this period, no technician visited my location. I contacted Jio customer care multiple times. Each time, the executives merely escalated the issue and raised complaints internally, but no actual resolution or installation was done. I was given repeated false assurances that the issue would be resolved within 24 to 48 hours, which never happened.
Because of this prolonged delay and uncertainty, my work was severely affected. Since I depend on the internet for my daily professional responsibilities, I was left with no option but to cancel the Jio Fiber relocation request. I immediately opted for Airtel Broadband, which provided me with a working internet connection within half a day. This clearly shows that the issue was not due to feasibility or infrastructure, but due to negligence and poor service by Jio.
After cancellation, I requested a refund of the Rs. 1200 relocation charges paid in advance. However, till date, I have not received the refund. Worse, Reliance Jio has effectively blocked all reasonable ways for me to contact them regarding this issue. Customer care calls are disconnected without resolution, tickets are closed without explanation, and there is no transparent grievance redressal mechanism.
This complaint is not merely about the amount of Rs. 1200. It is about the unethical and irresponsible conduct of a large corporation that collects money upfront, fails to provide the promised service, and then avoids refunding the customer. Such practices amount to deficiency in service and unfair trade practices under the Consumer Protection Act.
Reliance Jio’s behavior has caused me financial loss, mental harassment, professional inconvenience, and loss of trust. A company of this scale cannot be allowed to escape accountability by ignoring individual consumers.
