The power board of my Hewlett Packard (HP) make Laser Jet M-1138 printer got burnt and I contacted the customer care of HP. They referred me to their authorised service provider, Inspire Technologies, Kadavanthra, Cochin. They deputed a technician in the third week of March,2025 to examine the printer at my residence, at Mannar, Alappuzha dist.. The technician after examining the printer, said that the power board needed to be replaced and that the estimate of the cost of the power board would be sent to me in a few days by Inspire Technologies, the authorised service provider of HP. He charged Rs.870 for the visit. After a few days, an estimate dated 26th March, 2025 of an amount of Rs.7198 including the GST as the cost of the new power board was sent to me by them. As I was in a hurry to get the printer repaired, I accepted the estimate without any questions and the amount of Rs.7198 was transferred to their bank on 27th March. As the firm, Inspire Technologies being the authorised service provider of HP, I did not have any doubt about the genuineness of the spare part and its cost.
In the message attached with the estimate, it was mentioned that it would take about 10-15 days to do the repair. But as the repair of the printer was being delayed beyond the promised 10-15 days, I enquired from them on phone and I was told that due to Vishu and Easter, the delivery of the spare part was being delayed. I patiently waited and the technician came with the spare part only on 5rd April, more than 35 days after the payment was made. The technician opened the printer and took out the new power board from a card board box and started connecting the power board in the printer. As there was no logo of HP on the box of the new power board, I checked the card board box and got an invoice from the box. To my shock, I found that the invoice was from one Calidad Printer Spares to Inspire technologies for an amount of Rs.2184 only for the power board brought for my printer. When I questioned the technician, why the power board was coming from this firm, and not from HP, that too about Rs.5000 less than charged from me, the technician admitted that the power board was not an original one from HP, but a refurbished one from this Calidad Printer spares. Immediately, I stopped the technician from installing the refurbished power board and contacted one Ranjit, the manager of the service department of Inspire Technologies as told to me by the Technician. This Ranjit had no explanation for this cheating attempt and when I told him that I would report the matter to the Police he simply told me that the money, I paid would be refunded to me. The technician immediately left the place with the refurbished power board. A copy of the invoice from Calidad Printer spares of the refurbished power board is attached. I got the entire amount in a week’s time.
I tried to take up the matter with Hewlett Packard chat box and the experience was frustrating that they were ignoring my complaint of Inspire Technologies attempting to cheat me, instead repeatedly sent a message to contact the service provider, against whom I was making the complaint. Then I sent an email to the customer care of Hewlett Packard on 17th May asking them to respond by 20th May, 2025. The complaint has not even been acknowledged by Hewlett Packard till now.
If I had not detected the invoice of the refurbished power board from the card board box, the technician would have fitted the refabricated one which cost only Rs. 2184 in my printer after collecting Rs.7198, the cost of a genuine part from me. Therefore, Inspire Technologies, the authorised service providers of Hewlett Packard, is guilty of attempting to cheat me which is a crime.
As the repair of the printer has been delayed, I had to purchase another printer, which has been a burden to me., when the HP laser printer, which costs now about Rs.20000 is lying as junk due to Inspiron Technologies, tried to cheat me as explained.
It may be clear from the above-mentioned facts that Inspiron Technologies, the authorised service providers have delayed the supply of the spare part for more than 35 days against the promised 10-15 days, their guilt becomes more severe and criminal when they tried to install a refurbished power board which costs only one third of the cost of the genuine power board, which they collected from me after sending the estimate.
Further, the technician admitted to me that he has fitted many printer parts purchased from this second-hand printer parts dealer and that his job was only to repair and replace damaged parts provided to him by the company. This leads to the complaint that Inspiron Technologies, in the garb of authorised service provider of the world-famous company Hewlett Packard, might have cheated many customers by providing cheap refurbished or spurious parts to the printers of many customers. Therefore, in the public interest also, Inspire Technologies deserved to be fined heavily as a deterrent against them cheating the customers in future.
In these circumstances, I request that I may kindly be compensated with not less than Rs.50000 from Inspire Technologies for the mental agony and sufferings caused to me by their delayed supply and more severely for trying to cheat me by trying to install a refurbished power board after collecting the cost of a genuine power board from Hewlett Packard. Hewlett Packard too need to be reprimanded and punished for their inaction to a complaint of attempting to cheat a customer, against their authorised service provider.
