Group Tour of minimum 10 converted to just two without tour guide and restrictions on food served, gross deficiency of service

I booked a trip online to Almaty (Kazakhstan) with my wife through the travel company, Makemy Trip India Private Ltd by paying an amount of Rs. 2,17,557/- for travel from 21st to 27th November, 2024.



The trip I booked was for a group tour of 10 persons as clearly stated in the quote (Attached) with a tour guide to accompany the group.



To our dismay, when we reached Almaty, we found that we two are the only group. Makemytrip never informed me that me and my wife are the only two people in the group. The deception and lies started from the day one. In fact, we found many groups from India in Almaty arranged by other travel agencies.



It is very unsafe to travel in a foreign country all by ourselves. The very idea I, a senior citizen, booked a group tour was that there is safety in numbers. What if the driver resorts to violence and rob us?



The hotel booked for us is good. However, it is located far away from the city (obviously to save on cost). You need to hire a taxi to go anywhere. Tourists would like to stay closer to city center. In fact, we saw many good hotels near the city attractions.



It was mentioned that there will be a tour manager/guide to accompany. But our driver was doubling up as guide cum driver!. (Again MMT saving money). No doubt very polite and well behaved, his English is poor and knowledge as a tour guide is average.



The package price includes lunch and dinner in Indian Restaurants.



The big issue is when we were taken to an Indian restaurant for lunch. They said no starters, soups or any drinks (even soft drinks). We were not given restaurant menu, but were told to order from a fixed menu. We were not given any choice to order what we want. When I raised my concerns with local agent, Mr Vishal Jain, he expressed his inability to resolve the issue as he is only following MMT instructions! All my messages and watsapp calls to concerned people in MMT have not been answered. If there were more people in the tour group, a wider choice of food would have been available.



Even otherwise, the amount allocated for lunch/dinner was so little, it is barely half of what it costs to have a meal in a decent restaurant.



I sent a message to COO of MMT highlighting the issues. I got a mail saying the matter is closed as it is resolved. I sent a message to one Ms Denny Davis ( who has been liasioning wih me) asking her to let me know the contact details of their escalating team. Though she saw my message, she has not bothered to respond. It is clear that there is no escalation team worth its name in MMT.



We had a thorough, unsatisfactory and scary tour thanks to very poor management of MMT. I sent a feedback (in response to their mail) highlighting the difficulties we faced. Since there was no reply, I sent a mail to the COO of Makemy Trip which again, as expected, remains unanswered.



I registered my compliant with National Consumer Helpline during December, 2024. Though they contacted the company to redress my grievance, the company refused to acknowledge that there is deficiency in service.



National Consumer Helpline have advised me file a case in E-Jagrithi against the tour company for poor service and absence of adequate mechanism to redress customer complaints. I demand that my money is refunded along with adequate compensation due to a very unsatisfactory and deficient service and gross negligence of MMT and causing mental agony and fear of being attacked in a foreign country.
